Project overview
JPS worked with AH2 Developments and Saer Architects on the redevelopment of the former Bull Bay Hotel site in Anglesey.
Following the demolition of the existing hotel in 2022, the scheme delivers nine contemporary two-bedroom self-catering holiday apartments and three three-bedroom self-catering houses. Designed to reflect the form of the previous building while introducing a modern architectural approach, the development maximises views across the Anglesey coastline through open-plan living spaces and Juliet balconies.
JPS provided the structural design for the timber-framed new-build development, developing practical solutions to overcome the site’s challenging topography and existing underground structures.
The engineering challenge
The scheme presented several challenges, including:
- Redeveloping the site of the former Bull Bay Hotel following its demolition.
- Designing a new structure that reflected the form of the previous hotel while accommodating a contemporary architectural design.
- Working within a sloping coastal site with varying ground conditions.
- Addressing the presence of existing basement structures from the former development.
- Developing foundation solutions suitable for the site’s constraints and construction requirements.
- Coordinating structural requirements alongside the wider design team and contractor.
The engineering solution
JPS was responsible for:
- Delivering the structural design for the new-build holiday apartment and housing development.
- Designing efficient timber-framed superstructures to support the architectural vision of the scheme.
